Monday 17th January – walk ***** – Sunrise prom walk to The Manor at
Felixstowe – sunny and still.
With wall-to-wall sunshine and light winds, I was keen to go down to the
seafront to catch the sunrise, Mag had a disturbed night and was already up
when I dressed at 7.15, in fact she was just coming back to bed to read as
I was getting ready so she decided to come with me:) With very few clouds
in the sky the sunrise was not going to be anyway near as impressive as
last Mondays when the sky was amazing. Still, it is always nice to be out
early, frosty too and not many people about which is just how we like it. I
had taken a lot of sunrise pics recently featuring the pier so we decided
to walk to the end of the prom at the Manor end. It was looking like a
pretty dull sunrise but then things improved as the sun appeared above the
horizon just in time for a large container ship to pass:) I then took some
pics of the Martello Tower and the beach huts before reaching the end of
the prom spotting several Turn Stones on the way! With the sea very flat it
was very pleasant walking back, bumping into a friend out on her bike, we
stopped for a chat before returning home to sort the pics out over warming
porridge.
Bike ***** - Two Rivers, Orwell to the Deben including lunch at
Landguard.
As the day was so lovely, we decided to take our cuppa soup down to
Landguard on our bikes, leaving home just after 12.30, heading through
Langer Park where we were surprised to see loads of Magpies in a tree, Mag
actually counted 15! Then onto Felixstowe Dock view point while Mag headed
straight to the old Landguard pier. I soon joined her for yummy soup making
the most of the top weather with great views too. There were a few boats
out but sadly no seals, then well rested we headed back across Landguard
Nature Reserve with rabbits everywhere and a few wagtails too. Back along
the prom which is hard work cycling in places due to the large amount of
shingle. The prom is now much busier with people out enjoying the sunny
weather so Mag decides to head for home up Bent Hill while I continue to
Jacobs Ladder with the sun looking fantastic on the super flat sea. I
carried my bike up the steps then past the beach huts on the cliff and down
onto the prom, past The Dip and onto my favourite Felixstowe Ferry with the
River Deben mirror flat with reflections everywhere. Through the boat yard
for yet more pics before taking the Deben path the Kings Fleet. Up Marsh
Lane leading to a muddy Grove wood and home. It had been a hectic day,
first a 3 mile walk followed by a near 15 mile bike ride and all with a
dodgy heel, Mag least Mag has done an e – consult so hopefully I can get
it sorted! Despite getting some cracking shots today yet again none made it
onto the local weather:(
